There are many different opinions on what an engagement should actually be like; many cultures adapt it to their own traditions, and above all, everyone wants to be original, etc. There are certain procedures and customs that must be followed. It also can’t be anything cheap or cliché; every woman, as the internet itself suggests, wants her engagement to be unique and everything else too. Who wouldn’t want to say that their event was the most unique of all? But we’ve gotten ahead of ourselves. Now we need to look at something much more important—what should be on the mind of every man or woman considering marrying the other.
A) Ideally, you should stay together forever. That is, until the end of your lives or the life of one of you. Of course, at that moment we’re thinking of nothing but the marital bed, but let’s be honest. Most couples don’t stay together. The poorer the circumstances, the more volatile it is. Everyone will surely agree with that. Some children will never experience a traditional two-parent family in their lives.
B) Is this really the right person? You should ask yourself this question endlessly. If the answer is always and consistently yes, then it’s incredibly romantic. Of course, even the most compatible souls sometimes argue. But what matters is whether you work on the relationship or let it fizzle out. But if you’re in a bad relationship that you’re staying in for the sake of the kids, your parents, or your friends, you should gather all your strength and walk away. Don’t let yourself be lured by a ring or a promise that “everything will change.” People change very little, if at all.
C) Set aside a substantial amount of money. The wedding, the reception, an after-party—all of that will take a big chunk out of your wallet, so be prepared for anything. Going into a wedding without money is the biggest mistake. Because then it just leads to problems. And after all, we only get married once, right?
